Octo-Mom's Kids Turn 1

Nadya Suleman says she's "matured a lot" in a year

Happy birthday to you, you, you, you, you, you, you and you.

Nadya Suleman says she’s “definitely matured a lot” since she first shocked the world by giving birth to octuplets a year ago Tuesday.

"When this started, it was all about me,” the 34-year-old unemployed single mom of 14 tells People. “But now I find myself in a situation where I have to support a large family and take care of a large household.”

Despite being “sued, harassed and abused,” Suleman says she’s learned to focus her limited attention on making sure all bills and her mortgage get paid.

After all, Suleman says she only gets about two or three hours of sleep a night.

“But I’m continuing to move forward with my life and trying to be the best mother I can be," she tells People.

Suleman says she makes sure to squeeze in “special one-on-one days” with her older children. Yet she worries about how successful she is at bonding with her littlest ones, who are being raised with the help of three nannies.

Her only luxury: going to the gym a few times a week.

But would she “do it all over again?” People asks.

Suleman gives an emphatic “no.”
