A “Sex and the City Star” and a critically-acclaimed film were just some of the winners at the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation’s 22nd Annual Media Awards last night in San Francisco, The Associated Press reported.

Kim Cattrall, who is famous for playing the character of Samantha on “Sex and the City” received the Golden Gate Award—an honor bestowed upon a media professional who have heightened the profile of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities.

The movie “The Kids Are All Right,” featuring Annette Bening and Julianne Moore portraying lesbian mothers, selected as Outstanding Film—Wide Release. Outstanding Documentary went to “8: The Mormon Proposition.”

The other GLAAD award winners include AT & T (Corporate Leader Award), Christian Chavez (Outstanding Spanish-Language Music Artist) and author Kara Swisher (Local Hero Award).

The presenters at the awards were Mario Lopez, Sara Ramirez and Louis Van Amstel, according to a GLAAD press release.

The other 22 Annual GLAAD Media Awards were handed out in Los Angeles and New York earlier this year. The awards, according to GLAAD’s Web site, “recognize and honor media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and the issues that affect their lives.”
