Jon Stewart Has Last Laugh on Rick Sanchez

What was Sanchez thinking?

Here's how taking on Jon Stewart has worked out for Rick Sanchez so far: He's been fired and compared to hapless "The Office" character Michael Scott.

Sanchez was fired by CNN after calling "The Daily Show" host a bigot and Stewart reacted predictably, holding his tormentor up for hilarious scorn on Monday's show. First, he told his audience he'd heard Sanchez call him the name in a radio interview.

"Omigod!" Stewart gushed sarcastically. "Rick Sanchez knows my name!"

Stewart replayed another excerpt from interview where Sanchez said he is "glad that (Stewart) grew up in a suburban middle-class New Jersey home with everything that you could ever imagine."

Sanchez "really nailed what it was like growing up in central Jersey in the early '70s, the fortunate son of a single mother in the education field," Stewart noted, tongue in cheek.

Then, he unleashed a video that compared Sanchez to Steve Carell's character on the NBC show.

Meanwhile, on her Facebook page, Suzanne Sanchez wrote that her husband had apologized to Stewart: "rick apologized to jon stewart today. they had a good talk. jon was gracious and called rick, 'thin-skinned.' he's right. rick feels horrible that in an effort to make a broader point about the media, his exhaustion from working 14 hr days for 2 mo. straight, caused him to mangle his thought process inartfully. he got ...caught up in the banter and deeply apologizes to anyone who was offended by his unintended comments."
