Aaron Carter, whose hits "Aaron's Party" and "I Want Candy" made him a teen idol in the last decade, has entered rehad for an unspecified addiction problem.

The 23-year-old singer voluntarily checked into an undisclosed facility in Southern California as part of a planned comeback, according to E! Online

"He was struggling recently and needed this," a source told E! Online.

Carter's manager Johnny Wright said that the singer wants to resume his career and was in Orlando, Florida, working on a new album and "perfecting his live show and his physical body."

"Aaron, understanding the challenges and hard work it would take to get himself back to the top, requested to take some time before we started to heal some emotional and spiritual issues he was dealing with," Wright said. "Therefore he has chosen to enter a facility where he feels he will get the guidance and cleansing he needs that will help him on the music journey he's about to take."

Carter, who has in the past been romantically linked to Lindsay Lohan and Hilary Duff, appeared on "Celebrity Rehab" in 2006, after starring in a reality show about his family, "House of Carters."
