In an Access Hollywood exclusive interview, which airs in three parts beginning on Thursday, September 25, Michelle Obama and Jill Biden opened up to Nancy O’Dell about family sleepovers, how the women immediately clicked, balancing work with family and more.

Following Access Hollywood’s exclusive interview with Senator Obama and his family earlier this year, Nancy joined up with Michelle and Jill on the campaign trail in Allentown, Pennsylvania, where Nancy found out the friendship Michelle and Jill formed began the moment they met.

“It was just one of those magical moments where we spent a week together and after that week, you know Michelle put her arms around me and I put my arms around her and she said, ‘I love you’ and I said, ‘I love you, too,’” Jill recalled. “We just clicked.”

When asked how life for the family has changed since Sen. Barack Obama was named the official Democratic Presidential candidate, Michelle said, “The biggest thing that happened to my kids this summer wasn’t the convention or their dad securing the nomination. They got to meet The Jonas Brothers!”

Making sure their families have fun while on the campaign trail is key. The night of Michelle’s speech at the Democratic National Convention, her daughter Malia, 10, said she had something important to tell her mother.

“I was like, ‘What? Was I bad?’ She said, ‘No, but we have to have a sleepover tonight,’” Michelle recounted. “The sleepover happened the next night and included Jill’s granddaughters with about 15 children from the campaign.”

The women also discussed balancing work and being on the campaign trail with time for their families.

“No matter how my kids are doing, I feel like I should be spending more time with them,” Michelle said. “When I am with them, I’m thinking this campaign is so important I should be spending every waking moment out on the campaign trail. I think that is what we as women, as parents, we always feel guilty.

“You know there is no investment more important than making sure that Barack and Joe get to the White House,” Michelle continued. “That is the greatest gift I can give my girls at this time.”
While discussing the struggles that families in America face, along with wanting a better life for their children and in Jill’s case, grandchildren, Nancy commented that Jill doesn’t look like a grandma.

“She’s a hot nana!” Michelle exclaimed.

When asked about Republican vice presidential candidate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin being shielded from the press and treated as a delicate flower, Michelle said, “I try not to focus any amount of time on the other side. I think that they are making the choices that they think are best for their candidates.”
