    Millions of people suffer from some form of mental illness, so knowing how to identify a mental health emergency can be critical. Doreen Gentzler reports about a class teaching people to do just that. (Published Friday, Feb. 12, 2016)

    Since 2001, the National Council for Behavioral Health has been working to fight stigma associated with mental illness with the creation of the Mental Health First Aid program. 

    The certification program is an 8-hour course that teaches participants how to assess risk factors, identify symptoms, support individuals in crisis and provide information on resource centers.
