Prince George's County Public Schools are providing a cheaper option for students to receive the mandatory vaccinations to attend school.
Prince George’s County Public Schools are pairing with the Maryland Partnership for Prevention and Kaiser Permanente to provide free immunizations in August.
The free immunizations are reserved for students entering kindergarten, grade 7 or repeating grade 9.
Prince George's County Public Schools will have a back-to-school fair on August 6 where students may receive free vaccinations. The fair will also have an array of free supplies provided for students. Last year, thousands flocked to the fair to prepare their children for school.
All students in Prince George’s County are required to have vaccinations by August 23 -- the first day of the new school year. Students who do not have the vaccination are not permitted to attend school until they do have verification of vaccinations.
The required vaccinations are for diseases including polio, measles, mumps, rubella, chickenpox and hepatitis B.
There are some exceptions. Students with medical conditions or religious beliefs that prevent them from getting vaccinated can apply for an exemption.
