The U.S. Mint has released a special-edition quarter featuring composer Duke Ellington – making him the first African American to fly solo on circulated U.S. currency.

Is there a greater American composer than Duke Ellington? We'll leave that decision up to you as we give you a friendly nudge to take a visit to the Strathmore (10701 Rockville Pike, Bethesda, Md.) and celebrate the life of Mr. Ellington with a tribute called "Discover Ellington."

Throughout the entire month of February, enjoy performances and events held in his honor from lectures to pianists to an entire concert. Tony Award winner Brian Stokes will sing Ellington's musicals while D.C.'s Manzari Brothers wear out their tap shoes.
To cap off a month of Ellington celebrations, make an appearance at Strathmore's Music Center on February 20 (11 a.m.-4 p.m.) to take part in the annual open house. This event is FREE and includes all things Ellington, with classes, workshops and performances.
Ticket prices vary for each event. Call 301-581-5199 for detailed information and pricing.
