Ever felt like you could walk on air? Well, you can -- figuratively speaking.
Get the kind of aerial view you'd never see from your seat out a plane. Dancing on Air Balloon Voyages in Flemington, N.J., offer a scenic (and not at all scary... right?) hour-long journey through the sky.
When you meet at the launch site, you'll get to see your balloon take shape as the team assembles and inflates it. You might even be recruited as an assistant.
After the balloon is ready for liftoff, it gently rises up in the air, taking you to a height of about 2,000 feet where you'll get an amazing view of the entire area. On clear days, you may get lucky and see the Delaware Water Gap and even the skylines of Philadelphia and New York City.
Next, the pilot will take the balloon down to treetop level, where you can search for wildlife on the ground, such as deer and a wild turkeys.
Finally, once you're back on solid ground, the crew will meet you at the landing spot, where they pack up the balloon and return to the launch field for a champagne and hors d'oeuvres party. Fancy.
Safety is first (although the champagne is important, that comes later) -- with FAA-certified pilots and aircraft, and a 100 percent safety record, they'll make sure to have you up in the air and down on the ground carefully.
Dress comfortably. Usually, the temperature is no colder in the balloon than on the ground for sunset flights. Layers are OK especially as the day transitions; it may get chilly. They do recommend wearing a hat or baseball cap, because you may feel some radiant heat from the burners overhead.
Although the balloon voyage is available seven days a week, it's best to make your reservations in advance. There are only two flight times per day, at sunrise and shortly before sunset.
The cost is $215 per passenger. Group rates are available for four or more passengers. For reservations, call 908-237-9993 or go here.
Budget about three hours from assembly to champagne. Flemington, N.J. is about three hours and 45 minutes north of downtown D.C.
