Creating Molten Glass into Art at Sunspots Studio

For $40-$45 you can create your one-of-a-kind blown glass ornament. Get creative and choose your own color, size and shape. Sunspots will be creating ornaments until Dec. 31 (what a perfect gift for next year). Your ornament will be ready the next day for pick up or delivery (needs to set overnight in the annealing oven). 

 

The studio is open 7 days a week with free glass blowing demonstrations (until 4p.m.) every day. The ornament blowing times are Dec. 26-30, 1p.m.-5p.m. and Dec. 31st, 1-3p.m.

 

At the studio you'll also find an art gallery filled with copper, jewelry, handbags and of --hand-blown glass. Watch the artists demonstrate their skills as they dip the blow pipes into molten glass (from a 2,000 degree furnace) and use marvers (they sometimes use wet newspapers) to shape the glass into its form. 

 

This coming April (28th and 29th) Sunspots is also hosting the Virginia Hot Glass Festival. The event is free and features artists across the region demonstrating flame working, bead working and glass blowing.
