No Loafing, No Cussing at Baby Jim's

"No Loud Talking. No Loafing. In other words, no dillydallying around."

Those words come from a sign hanging on the wall of Baby Jim's Snack Bar (701 N. Main St., Culpeper, Va.), a retro diner in town since 1947. To this day, it remains fairly unchanged and still owned and operated by the Jenkins Family.

On the menu you'll find traditional American food including burgers, milkshakes and hot dogs at prices that reflect a menu from the 1950s.

Whether you choose to stand and eat at the counter (no indoor seating!) or grab a picnic table outside (well, maybe in nicer weather), the choice is yours. Most busy folks typically choose to order takeout.

The operating hours for this nifty diner are on the atypical side -- 4:30a.m. to 3 p.m. No dinner for you! But the hours are because of the Amtrak rail nearby; they prefer to accommodate the commuters heading to D.C. at the crack of dawn each morning. Because, after all, it's the people of Culpeper that have kept this diner in business for about 65 years and counting.
