George Washington's home is getting ready for the Presidents Day holiday.
Mount Vernon, the former home of the nation's first president, is offering free admission on Monday.
Spokeswoman Melissa Wood says the estate often sees more than 10,000 people come for the holiday, but they are expecting a smaller crowd this year. That's in part because school systems like Fairfax County are holding classes to make up for lost snow days.
Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe is expected to make remarks at the home. There'll also be a wreath-laying ceremony at Washington's tomb and a 21-gun salute.
In D.C., The Library of Congress is hosting an open house of its ornate Main Reading Room to show how the public can access the library's resources and a presidential display for President's Day.
The reading room will be open Monday for the President's Day holiday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Reference librarians will show visitors how to obtain registration cards and use the library's services. A special display also will feature items from the first three U.S. presidents.
The library is also hosting activities for children in its Young Readers Center, including presidential trivia and reading famous speeches by presidents.
Guided tours of the library's historic Thomas Jefferson Building will be offered throughout the day.
All other reading rooms and buildings will be closed for the holiday.
Mount Vernon is not the only national park you can check out Monday. All 401 national parks across the country will waive the cost of admission in honor of Presidents Day. Click here for more information.
