A Need for (200 MPH) Speed at the Hampton Cup Regatta

If you have the need for speed (and rooster tails), then the 87th Hampton Cup Regatta in Hampton, Va., is the place to be. The regatta runs Aug. 10-12 and is free for spectators.

You'll find 10 different races during the three-day span. This year's hydroplane boat race is 1.5 miles long and tests the speed of the fastest boats in all the land -- at speeds reaching close to 200 mph. Lets hope they have more than a seat belt if anything ominous happens. Scary!

Enter the pits to view the boats (after you sign a waiver) to talk with pit crews and drivers, or just walk the beach where the food vendors will tantalize you. Camping is available at Fort Monroe if you prefer to rough it.
For best views of the races, head to the Mercury Boulevard Bridge.
