Free Summer Events at National Harbor

Summer fun has begun at the Gaylord National Resort at National Harbor, bringing events, festivals and kids parades to both daytrippers and overnight hotel guests.

Family -friendly events include free Saturday night fireworks shows at 9:30 p.m. overlooking the Potomac River, plus dance performances, DreamWorks parades and fountain shows.

On select dates during the season, watch as the aerial dancers float above the hotel's atrium, suspended from the 19-story glass ceiling as they "dance" in the bar. Hint: The dancers are best viewed from Belvedere lobby bar. Just saying.

While you're down there, check out the nightly atrium fountain show, with 60-foot high water spurts that dance to the music. In other words: If you can't get to the Bellagio in Vegas, this is your next best bet.

Kiddos will enjoy the DreamWorks character parades. They take place in the lower atrium from 6 to 6:15 p.m. every weekend and best of all(?), you can feel free to join in on the marching.

DreamWorks character meet and greets are also available on weekends near the Gingy Store ($35 per person). The ShrekFeast Breakfast and Princess Fionas Cookie Castle are among the other events happening every weekend.
