Delaware's Dewey Beach and Maryland's Ocean City have made the list of the nation's cleanest beaches.
They both earned a five-star rating from the Natural Resources Defense Council, which found that they were among a dozen beaches that follow best practices. The beaches also violated health standards less than five percent of the time. We like those odds!
The environmental group released its annual assessment of 3,000 beach sites Wednesday.
Delaware's beach water quality ranked first among 30 states in the study. The environmental group said none of the water samples collected at the two beaches in Maryland or Delaware exceeded state standards.
The report also lists beaches that are "repeat offenders" for their persistent contamination problems. See the full list here.
