County fairs are a summertime essential pretty much everywhere, and the DMV is no exception. Celebrate with tons of food, unique contests, live entertainment and carnival rides all summer long.
Read on for D.C.-area festivities happening from July to September:
When: Sept. 24
Where: Waterfront Metro Station (375 and 425 M streets SW)
Enjoy most of the fun of a county fair right in the city. Arts and crafts vendors, a pet parade, contests and food vendors converge for a day of fun to showcase the area's "agricultural and artistic talents." The fair's been held in many different locations since its first annual event in 2010, and this year heads to the Southwest Waterfront.
When: July 14-22
Where: Allegany County Fairgrounds (11490 Moss Ave., Cumberland)
Fireworks, rides and performances by Trace Adkins and Chris Lane are on the schedule for the Allegany County Fair this year. Concert tickets start at $23 for Trace Adkins and $18 for Chris Lane.
When: Sept. 13-17
Where: Anne Arundel County Fairgrounds (1493 General's Highway, Crownsville)
Compete in Arundel’s Got Teen Talent, watch SuperMagicMan perform his comedy magic show and enter your child in the cute kid contest at the Anne Arundel County Fair.
When: Sept. 14-17
Where: Charles County Fairgrounds (8400 Fairground Road, La Plata)
Charles County Fair is hosting pig races, pony rides and a carnival full of rides. Admission is $5 for adults and free for children 10 and younger. Four-day passes are also available for $12. Find fair hours online here.
When: Aug. 5-12
Where: Howard County Fairgrounds (2210 Fairgrounds Road, West Friendship)
The Howard County Fair will feature family magic shows, clowns and balloon artists. Local rock, country and bluegrass bands will play in the evenings. Tickets go for $5 for adults, free for children under 10 and $2 for seniors 62 and older. Daily hours are 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.
When: Sept. 15-23
Where: Frederick Fairgrounds (797 East Patrick St., Frederick)
The Great Frederick Fair will host a landscaping competition, cake auctions, garden and farm demos and more. On Sept. 15, entrance is $5 for adults and free for children under 10. Fair hours that day are 2-10 p.m. From Sept. 16 through Sept. 23, entrance is $8 for adults but still free for children. Fair hours those days are 9 a.m.-10 p.m.
When: Aug. 11-19
Where: Montgomery County Agricultural Center (501 Perry Parkway, Gaithersburg)
Catch monster truck shows, have meet-and-greets with farm animals, jump on rides and play games on the midway. Pretty much whatever county fair fun you'd want, you'll be able to find it at the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair. General admission is $12 for those 12 and older; kids 11 and younger get in free. Free parking is available at the Lakeforest Mall; on-site parking is $10. When: Sept. 7-10
Where: Show Place Arena (14900 Pennsylvania Ave, Upper Marlboro)
Enjoy the carnival rides, compete for best jam in the county and pet farm animals at the Prince George's County Fair. Fair entry is $5 per person. Single tickets for $1.50 and books of tickets for $25 and $55 will be available to enjoy rides. Rides are 3-5 tickets.
When: Sept. 21-24
Where: St. Mary's County Fairgrounds (42455 Fairgrounds Road, Leonardtown)
The St. Mary's County Fair hosts competitions around raising livestock, crafting home art, gardening and 4-H departments. Daily fair admission is $5 for adults, $1 for children ages 6-12 and free for children under 6. Find fair hours online here.
When: July 15-22
Where: Washington County Agricultural Education Center (7313 Sharpsburg Pike, Boonsboro)
The Washington County Fair hosts a carnival, bull riding, truck and tractor pulling and more. Admission is free for children 5 and younger. For all others, a daily adult pass is $3 (except July 15, when admission is $10).
When: Aug. 16-20
Where: Thomas Jefferson Community Center (3501 2nd St. S., Arlington)
Enjoy rides, check out prize-winning crafts, shops arts and crafts vendors, and chow down on classic fair food at the Arlington County Fair, which -- in addition to the D.C. "State" Fair -- is the only other (somewhat) Metro-accessible fair on this list. Although there's no public parking available at the fair, shuttle buses will run about every 30 minutes from the Ballston and Pentagon City Metro stations, as well as the Arlington Career Center and the I-66 parking garage. Shuttle bus rides are $2 for most, although kids age 12 and under and seniors 65 and over can ride for free. See fair hours online here.
When: Aug. 3-6
Where: Frying Pan Farm Park (2709 West Ox Road, Herndon)
Carnival rides, live entertainment, tractor pulls and farm animals await patrons at the Fairfax County 4H Fair and Carnival. Admission is free. Parking is free on weekdays and $8 during the weekend. One-day unlimited ride passes are $25 at the gate, but are available in advance online at a discount.
When: July 12-15
Where: Fauquier Fairgrounds (6209 Old Auburn Road, Warrenton)
The Fauquier County Fair will feature a tractor pull, baby bottle gulp challenge, pageants, eating contests and more fun for the whole family. Country artist Jason Michael Carroll will perform Thursday night on the main stage. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for kids and seniors. Fair hours are 2-11 p.m. July 12-14, and 9 a.m.-11 p.m. July 15.
When: July 24-29
Where: Loudoun County Fairground (17758 Dry Mill Road, Leesburg)
Witness a hypnosis show, try the Oreo stacking contest, see the Cincinnati Circus perform and check out the rabbit hopping contest at the Loudoun County Fair. Tickets are $12 for adults and $5 for children. Seniors and children 12 and younger are free on special days until 4 p.m. Those with military ID receive free admission.
When: Aug. 11-19
Where: Prince William County Fairgrounds (10624 Dumfries Road, Manassas)
Enjoy all-day wine tastings, mechanical bull rides, a pet show and a baby contest at the Prince William County Fair. Admission tickets are $10 for adults, and $6 for children ages 5-13 and seniors, with discounts for advance orders placed online through July 31. Ride wristbands are $18-$22.
