You know you have a great chili cookoff when they have to close the streets to make room for the competitors.
The Main Street Cookoff in Mount Airy, Md., about two hours from D.C., will play host to 35 chili cooks and hundreds of hungry hungry people for a day of tastings and competions on Saturday, April 14.
Chefs will come from around the region to compete for a slot in this fall's International Chili Championship, so place your vote wisely.
Other than just nomming as much chili as possible, you'll also have opps to enter the spaghetti- or wing-eating contests, play in a cornhole competition, or just lounge around the beer garden set up near the railyard.
Live music and kid-friendly activities will be ongoing throughout the day.
Tasting kits are $5 which buys you a small sample of each chili. Entry to the event itself is free, and so is parking and bus transportation. The cookoff runs from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in historic downtown Mount Airy along Route 808
at Center Street.
