Celebrate a Pennsylvania Dutch Christmas

What better way to celebrate a Pennsylvania Dutch Christmas better than with a bonfire -- and plenty of hot cider and cookies, of course?

On Friday, Dec. 11 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, an entire community will gather around a roaring fire to celebrate the Christmas season at the Landis Valley Village and Farm Museum from 6 to 8 p.m.

Warm up by the fire, and then head to the barn to enjoy hot cider and cookies. The museum will also offer wagon rides and tours of historic buildings. Carolers will be there to welcome the season, accompanied by the Lititz Moravian Trombone Choir.

Landis asks that you bring a non-perishable food item for local shelters to the event.

Cost for bonfire: Free and open to the public.

Location for bonfire: 2451 Kissel Hill Road, Lancaster, Pennsylvania (2.5 hours from downtown D.C)

If you stay in town for the weekend, head over the next day for the Days of the Belsnickel lunch tour (Dec. 12, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.), when you can join a guided tour of the village of Landis Valley, followed by a lunch ($36/person) in the historic 1856 Landis Valley House Hotel.
