Beer & Bacon Fest at National Harbor

What is better than the smell of bacon? The only thing we can think of is beer and bacon. The second annual Capital Beer and Bacon Fest is returning to the Sunset Room at the National Harbor (Oxon Hill, Md.).

On Saturday, Nov. 19, two huge sessions of 400 people each will be enjoying live music, the best bacon dishes and plenty firkins of beer.

Enjoy 10+ bacons from all over the world with chefs cooking on-site. Flavors of bacon include bourbon, jalapeño, honey barbecue, apple cinnamon, duck, juniper, pepper-encrusted and more. As for the beer, 10+ firkins of Heavy Seas brews will be on tap.

The non-squeamish can check out a whole hog butchering demo from head butcher Chris Mattera of Sausage Craft. He'll show you where your favorite dishes come from... the risk, of course, being that after the demo, they may not be your favorite dishes anymore. (We wish you all the best of luck.)

Local restaurants will be vying to win the best bacon dish (chosen by the people). Participants include Sausage Craft, Eleven Courses, Captain Larry’s Cupcakes.

Music for each session will come from DJ Aran and The Dance Floor is Open So You Can Show Us How It's Done... yes, that's really the name.

Tickets ($70) are going fast. Session 1: noon-4 p.m. Session 2: 5-9p.m.
