Geoffrey Fletcher's “Precious” Takes Adapted Screenplay

Geoffrey Fletcher broke the sniffle barrier at approximate 9:51pm Eastern time in accepting the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for "Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire."

"I don't know what to say," he began. "This if for everybody who works on a dream every day, precious boys and girls everywhere.. the cast and crew... my two brothers ..." he continued as he grew progressively more emotional. He finally apologized for "blanking" as the room sat in a stunned silence that Martin shattered with one of his better one-liners of the night.

"I wrote that speech for him."
