Vineyard-Vacationing Washingtonians Dish: Obama Buzz Overtakes the Island

Obama sightings on Martha’s Vineyard have been few and far between. Unlike his Vineyard-vacationing predecessor Bill Clinton who was out and about, the President and his family have kept pretty much to themselves. Here's what several Island-loving Washingtonians told Niteside:

  • "Twice I was ensnared in Obama traffic jams, and there is a buzz about seeing the Secret Service or the photographers stationed here and there. Rumors abound that he will be at a certain party or playing golf but no one I know has actually seen him. I hope that means he is really having a wonderful vacation and enjoying family in the lovely place they are renting, " said The Washington Ballet advisory board member Kay Kendall.

  • “He hasn't been very public and our paths haven't crossed,” said journalist Finlay Lewis. “But, as you know, he was at the Bunch of Grapes (bookstore) and ... at Sweet Life."

Others reportedly out and about on the Vineyard: Septime Webre, Artistic Director of The Washington Ballet, Sen. Frank Lautenberg, Attorney General Eric Holder and his wife Sharon, Sen. Mark Warner and his wife Lisa Collis, Kate and Tod Sedgwick, newly appointed Amb. to Slovakia, Sarah and Bob Nixon who is working on a documentary about the oceans, Ludmila and Conrad Cafritz, The Hon. Ann Brown and Donald Brown along with summer residents AOL International’s founder Jack Davies and Anne and Vernon Jordan.

No one seemed to mind that there was a Nor'easter brewing across the pond when Niteside was informed that Obama was just spotted on the way to a restaurant State Road.
