A Possible Dream for Former Agriculture Secy Dan Glickman

Former Secretary of Agriculture Dan Glickman was awarded the 2010 Gene White Lifetime Achievement Award for Child Nutrition at the Possible Dream Gala Tuesday night.

“He is the perfect public servant and was a great Secretary of Agriculture. The man has a spine of steel and one of the sharpest minds I am aware of.  It’s a real pleasure to be here,” said longtime friend former Sen. George McGovern, who helped turn the tide against U.S. involvement in Vietnam.

Glickman received the award for Child Nutrition at the gala.

Glickman, who represented Kansas for 18 years in the House, is chairman of the Motion Picture Association of America. He'll be leaving the position in April to join Refugees International.

Rep. Jo Ann Emerson (R-MO) honored her former colleague referring to him as a Mr. Smith goes to Washington.  “It’s like every person from Kansas ends up quoting the Wizard of Oz who says, 'Gee Toto, we’re not in Kansas anymore.'”
