Santarchy Reigns This Weekend

Massive Santa-bration to Hit D.C.

Santas are taking over the District this weekend, and you need to be prepared -- 'cause they're going to wander the streets causing mischief, debauchery, tomfoolery and other synonyms for naughtiness.

Santacon and Santarchy are being held in just about every major U.S. city, and many more around the world, on various Saturdays in December. The dress code is simple -- wear a Santa suit.

"A Santa hat is not enough," says the website. "Get a Santa suit. Buy a Santa suit. Make a Santa suit. Steal a Santa suit. If you don't have any money, be creative. If you don't have any creativity, slap yourself three times and ask your mom to help you."

On Saturday Dec. 17 at 1 p.m., the Santas will leave for their (non-political) march from the National Mall Carousel (870 Independence Ave.). Santas who want to ice skate at the Sculpture Garden ice rink are encouraged to go early and start from the National Gallery; the group will pick them up before we leave the mall.

If you're going, better acquaint yourself with the rules so you don't end up on the naughty list.
