Virginia Mental Health Official to Retire

Virginia's chief deputy mental health commissioner plans to retire on Sept. 1.

John Pezzoli tells The Daily Progress that he will retire this summer, adding that he and his wife look forward to starting a new chapter. He says that includes traveling to visit the couple's daughters.

The 68-year-old Pezzoli has been with the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services since 2010. He was named acting commissioner of the department after James Stewart II retired in January. He served in that position until March when Gov. Terry McAuliffe appointed Debra Ferguson to replace Stewart.

The newspaper says Pezzoli announced his retirement Tuesday in an email addressed to friends and colleagues.
