Va. Officials to Release 2012 Tourism Revenues

Gov. Bob McDonnell is expected to reveal how much Virginia brought in from tourism over the past year.

McDonnell will announce the 2012 tourism revenue figures Wednesday in Richmond.

Tourism revenue in Virginia topped more than $20 billion in 2011, an 8 percent increase over the previous year and fueled in part by the weak economy. Tourism officials then touted the state as a travel destination for cost-conscious families seeking a less expensive get-away.

Officials said last year they expected the revenues to increase in 2012.
