Norton to Request Meeting With Secret Service

The District of Columbia's delegate to Congress is hoping for answers from the Secret Service about what led to long lines at a security checkpoint for the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington.

The office of Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton, D-D.C., plans to request a meeting this week with Secret Service Director Julia Pierson.

Norton says an "organizational breakdown'' led to a backup at the checkpoint that left many people unable to attend the event.

She says the Secret Service is capable of planning for events with large crowds and she's disappointed that it failed to do so. She calls the long lines "entirely unnecessary.'' She says emergency medical workers had to give assistance to more than 100 people who were waiting in the heat and humidity.
