Md. Bills to Facilitate Medical Marijuana to Be Heard

Measures to facilitate medical marijuana in Maryland will be getting a hearing.

A measure sponsored by Del. Cheryl Glenn and co-sponsored by 60 House members is scheduled to get a hearing in the House Health and Government Operations Committee on Friday, along with a bill sponsored by Del. Dan Morhaim, who authored the measure enacted last year to allow medical marijuana in Maryland.

However, the program in Maryland hasn't gotten off the ground. The framework in the law requires academic medical centers to distribute marijuana to patients, and the program has stalled.

On the first day of the legislative session, Gov. Martin O'Malley expressed support for working with lawmakers to find a way to move forward on medical marijuana in a responsible way that doesn't promote recreational use.
