McDonnell Request to Delay Arraignment Denied

Former Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell's request to delay his arraignment Friday morning has been denied.

McDonnell and his wife, Maureen McDonnell, were indicted Tuesday on 14 charges and are accused of accepting gifts totaling more than $135,000 including loans, a Rolex watch, rounds of golf at an exclusive club and designer clothes.

The indictment connects those gifts to support that Maureen and Bob McDonnell gave to Star Scientific, a Glen Allen, Va.-based company that makes dietary supplements.

The couple's lawyers filed a memo in federal court Tuesday, saying prosecutors hadn't shown the governor had agreed to perform an official act to help Star Scientific.

McDonnell wanted to delay his arraignment until next week, because he said one of his lawyers was out of the country in a place without an airport.
