Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell opposes Republican legislation to change his state's electoral college system.

The proposal would award the commonwealth's electoral votes by congressional district -- instead of the current winner-take-all system.

A spokesman for the governor said Friday that McDonnell will not support such a change.

McDonnell was scheduled to speak at the Republican National Committee meeting in Charlotte Friday but that was canceled due to the weather.
