A lawmaker in Maryland has pleaded guilty to misconduct in office for paying an employee in her law office $800 in state money. Delegate Tiffany Alston made a plea agreement to settle two separate cases.

Anne Arundel County Circuit Judge Paul Harris sentenced Alston to one year of jail with all of the time suspended. She also received three years of supervised probation and 300 hours of community service. She also has to pay the money back to the state.

Alston, a Prince George's County Democrat, received a sentence of probation before judgment on a theft count in the case.

In a separate matter, she received probation before judgment for using campaign money to pay for wedding expenses.
