Loudoun will investigate claims Delgaudio misused county staff to raise political funds

Loudoun County's Board of Supervisors has voted unanimously to investigate allegations that Republican Supervisor Eugene A. Delgaudio misused county staff to raise political funds.

A former staffer in Delgaudio's office filed a complaint with the county earlier this year, alleging she spent most of her time arranging fundraising meetings with potential donors. The complaint was referred to the commonwealth's attorney in Arlington, who did not recommend pursuing charges.

Delgaudio, who has developed a national reputation as an opponent of gay rights, has denied wrongdoing and said he was trying to raise money for a youth football league.

Wednesday's vote by the board comes a week after The Washington Post reported on the staffer's allegations.

It was not immediately clear what consequences Delgaudio might face if the board's investigation finds wrongdoing.
