Candidates Can Begin Submitting Petitions for Moran's Seat

Monday marks the first day Virginia Democrats can make their bid for the seat in the U.S. House of Representatives being vacated by Jim Moran.

Candidates vying for the soon-to-be open seat can submit their petition signatures starting Monday. Their submissions can secure them a spot on the June ballot.

Candidates have until March 27 to turn in those names. So far, 11 candidates have announced their plans to fill Moran's position.

Moran announced back in January that he would not be seeking another term.

"It's time to close this chapter of my life and move on to the next challenge," he said at the time.

Moran has represented Virginia's 8th District -- which includes Alexandria, Falls Church, Arlington and portions of Fairfax County -- for more than 20 years.
