Anne Arundel County police are searching for a man they say escaped while in handcuffs.

Police say they pulled over a car early Monday in Pasadena in which 21-year-old Devonte Trusty was a passenger. Police say they subsequently found drugs on Trusty, a resident of of Curtis Bay.

Police were in the process of arresting Trusty when he took off running, his hands handcuffed behind his back, Lt. T.J. Smith told The Capital.

Police searched the area but couldn't find Trusty.

Smith says police believe Trusty was able to evade capture by running into a nearby home. Smith says anyone helping Trusty could be prosecuted for harboring a fugitive.

In a separate case, Trusty is scheduled for a February trial on burglary, assault and gun charges stemming.
