Today's Post reports that Mayor Vincent Gray met with Jeanne Harris in January to discuss campaign expenditures.
Harris is a longtime associate who pleaded guilty this week to shepherding a $653,000 illegal "shadow campaign" in 2010.
News4 sources have confirmed that the meeting occurred in January.
Gray has maintained that he had nothing to do with the shadow campaign, he has refused to answer further questions because of the ongoing federal investigation.
But sources tell News4 that in January 2012, Harris approached Gray to tell him about unreported expenditures on his behalf -- in response to an audit of Gray's campaign by the Office of Campaign Finance. Gray apparently told Harris to send a report about the funds to his campaign staff.
It's not clear right now whether Harris ever complied with that direction.
