David Blair Files for Partial Recount in Montgomery County Executive Primary

Candidate David Blair filed for a partial recount in the Montgomery County executive Democratic primary Thursday afternoon.

Results certified Monday had Marc Elrich winning by just 79 votes. Each candidate had about 29 percent of the vote in the six-candidate race.

Blair's campaign said it requested a recount of the provisional and absentee ballots and select precincts. The precincts are the Potomac Community Recreation Center location in Potomac and the Hallie Wells Middle School location in Clarksburg, WTOP reported.

A glitch in voter registration affected 80,000 voters. Affected voters were told to cast provisional ballots.

“We have analyzed the election results by precinct, reviewed the treatment of thousands of provisional ballots, and spoken with hundreds of individual voters who experienced difficulties registering to vote or casting their ballots, and while it is certainly unclear whether a recount will affect the outcome, we believe the narrow margin coupled with the numerous issues impacting the election make a recount appropriate,” Blair said in a press release.

The recount is expected to last several days.

The Democratic nominee will face Republican nominee Robin Ficker in the general election.
