D.C. Mayor to Open New Playground at Voting Site

District of Columbia Mayor Vincent Gray will cut the ribbon on a new playground that happens to be located at an early voting site.

In addition to opening the renovated Turkey Thicket Playground in northeast Washington on Thursday, Gray plans to announce a long-term plan for improving the city's parks and recreation facilities.

Gray is seeking a second term in Tuesday's Democratic primary. The Turkey Thicket Recreation Center is one of 12 neighborhood sites around the city where early voting has been ongoing since Saturday. Among those locations, it's had the second-highest turnout so far.

The new playground includes play houses and mountains, sensory play equipment, a splash pad and a climbing hill.
