A day after D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray declared he will run for reelection he clashed with reporters peppering him with questions about a federal probe of his 2010 campaign, but all Gray wanted to talk about is what's ahead.
At a news conference about his economic development agenda Tuesday, Gray spent more than an hour talking about what his administration has done to make D.C.’s decade-old economic boom even better.
“We are doing well as a city and we need to believe that,” Gray said.
But he bristled when asked if his economic successes were built on the work of previous mayors Tony Wiliams and Adrian Fenty. Press Secretary Pedro Ribeiro challenged Washington City Paper reporter Aaron Weiner, prompting Washington Post reporter Mike DeBonis to snap back at Ribeiro.
Gray said he’s running on his record but refused to answer several questions about the ongoing federal criminal probe into his 2010 campaign. Four people who worked on the campaign have pleaded guilty to felonies. Gray says he did nothing wrong.
