D.C. Council Gives Preliminary Approval to Outdoor Smoking Ban

The D.C. Council gave preliminary approval to a ban on smoking within 25 feet of any city-owned park, dog parks, trail, community center, swimming pools and bus stops.

The Council's final vote on the ban will be in September.

More than 300 cities have imposed bans on smoking in parks, The Washington Post reported.

The bill would not affect federal properties like the National Mall or homeowners who live within 25 feet of city property.
