Bowser Tops Fundraising in D.C. Mayoral Race

D.C. Councilmember Muriel Bowser has raised more money than any of the other candidates for District of Columbia mayor, and she's also spent less than her closest rivals.

The first campaign finance reports for the mayoral candidates were due late Wednesday. Bowser raised $465,000 over a six-month period and spent about $40,000. She has nearly $425,000 left.

D.C. Councilmember Jack Evans raised $377,000 and has $304,000 on hand. Councilmember Tommy Wells has raised $215,000 and has nearly $143,000 left. Former State Department official Reta Lewis has raised $75,000 and has $62,000 on hand. All the candidates are Democrats.

Mayor Vincent Gray has not decided whether to seek re-election. His 2010 campaign is the subject of a long-running federal investigation, and three former aides have pleaded guilty to felonies.
