UVa. To Face Vanderbilt in College World Series Final

The Virginia Cavaliers will face the Vanderbilt Commodores in the 2014 College World Series Final beginning Monday at 8 p.m.

Both teams have been among college baseball's best for the past decade, but are making their first-ever appearances in the championship series. The Cavaliers expected to be there; Virginia started the season as the top-ranked team in the country and entered the NCAA Tournament as the top national seed.

Yet it has been several years since the No. 1 overall seed has won the championship. It last happened in 1999 when the Miami Hurricanes defeated the Florida State Seminoles.

While the Cavaliers are making their third trip to Ohama in the past six years, the Commodores are making their second in school history.

The two teams will meet in a best-of-three series. Game 2 is Tuesday and Game 3 (if necessary) is Wednesday at TD Ameritrade Park.
