Ryan Zimmerman Suffers ‘Pretty Substantial' Hamstring Strain

Not long after he returned from missing 44 games with a fractured thumb, Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman has once again landed on the disabled list, this time with a "pretty substantial" right hamstring strain.

Zimmerman had been on a tear at the plate, hitting .362 with six doubles and two home runs in July. He injured himself Tuesday against the Rockies sprinting up the first-base line.

The Nationals have been a much better team with Zimmerman than without. Washington is 33-19 when he starts and now 22-25 when he does not after a 6-4 loss to Colorado Wednesday.

"You don't ever want to see that happen to any of your teammates," Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche told reporters. "But a guy who has battled back from one injury and is a core piece of your lineup, that stings a little more."
