Redskins' Preseason Game: What to Know If You Go

Some policies have changed since last year

The Washington Redskins have their first preseason game against the New England Patriots Thursday. If you're heading out to FedEx Field, there's a few things you should know.

If you attended a Redskins game last year, most details remain the same, but some security policies have changed, and parking fees have gone up.

Check out the Redskins' preseason schedule here and keep an eye on the weather with our forecast. Don't forget to look out for Patriots rookie Travis Hawkins, who is from Rockville.

What You Can (and Can't) Bring With You

FedEx Field has strict policies on what can be brought inside.

Bags are not allowed unless they are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC. You can also bring clear Ziploc-style freezer bags, up to the one-gallon size. Small clutch purses are allowed if they will fit into one of the freezer bags.

Leave any backpacks and large purses in the car (or better yet, at home). Official NFL team bags will be for sale at merchandise outlets if you need an alternative at the last second.

More details on this policy are available from the NFL's security information site.

Prohibited items include seat cushions, umbrellas and bottles. You also cannot bring any food or beverages into the stadium. More information on prohibited items, as well as available food vendors, is available on the Redskins' site.

Parking & Traffic

A parking permit is available online, but the price has increased since last year. For $57.50, you can park on-site at FedEx Field, or for $46 you can park in the Gray Lot, a little further frm the field. You can can purchase a permit from FedEx Field's online ticketing site.

The permit is valid for one-time parking and cannot be used for additional tailgating space.  Those fees are significantly higher for buses and RVs.

Cash parking will also be available on the night, off of Brightseat Road, in the Gray Lot.

Check out this map of FedEx Field for a better idea of the layout and consult these detailed driving directions.

The game is likely to see high attendance, so traffic probably won't be fun. You can get updates by texting "RSTRAFFIC" to 44636. You can sign up for mobile traffic alerts on the Redskins Fan Zone page.

Public Transportation

FedEx Field is located within walking distance of Morgan Boulevard Station on Metro's Blue Line.

Although public transportation is likely to be crowded, Metro will stay open an extra hour Thursday evening for 'Skins fans. The last trains from Morgan Boulevard and Largo Town Center stations will depart just after 12:20 a.m.
