John Wall's Rookie of the Year Campaign

ASSOCIATED PRESS

The 2011 NBA Rookie of the Year race has been dominated by John Wall and Blake Griffin. If you're wondering why second-year player Griffin is even being considered, you're not alone.

While Griffin is in his second NBA season, he is labeled a rookie since he didn't play any games last year due to injury.

Fair? Maybe not. But Wall's incredible stats this season may make that irrelevant.

To bolster Wall's campaign, the Wizards have put together a video highliting his contributions to the team. It presents a pretty good argument for the Wizards star, who is a first-year rookie. Should he win, he would also be the the third Calipari-coached player to win the honors.

Due to league video restrictions we can't post the video, but you can watch it here. Among the stats highlights...

  • Ranked No. 1 in assists among rookies
  • Leads all rookies in steals per game
  • Second in scoring among rookies (behind Griffin)
  • One of only three rookies to record a triple-double this season (Griffin and Jordan Crawford join him)
  • First Washington rookie to record 1,000 points, 500 assists, and 100 steals in a season

When a team is losing, it's easy to forget the accomplishments of one player. This is a pretty big reminder of what the team is building on.

The team is also running a Nick Young Most Improved Player campaign. Most improved? Maybe. Most stylish? Absolutely.
