Jerry Jones on RG3: “I Was Very Impressed”

Rober Griffin III had one of the greatest debuts by a rookie quarterback in NFL history on Sunday

Just like the rest of the world, Cowboys’ owner and general manager Jerry Jones was highly impressed by what he saw from the Washington Redskins’ Robert Griffin III in his NFL debut on Sunday. In fact, Griffin’s 19-for-26, 320-yard and two-touchdown performance got Jones thinking that the rookie signal caller sure looks like a guy that will give Dallas trouble in 2012 and for years to come.

Well, I was very impressed,” Jones told 105.3 FM The Fan on Tuesday, via the Dallas Morning News. “He certainly showed a lot of poise. They had him game-planned really well to do the kinds of things that he does good. His athletic ability, his speed, all of that is something that I don’t look forward to the Cowboys competing against for a lot of years.”

Washington, of course, is hoping that Griffin will be the franchise quarterback they’ve so sorely needed for so long, and Jones, for one, thinks his team’s oldest rival might have struck gold when they traded up to the second overall pick to land the Baylor product.

“The Redskins have needed a quarterback for a long time,” he said. “They have an outstanding defense. … They’re going to be improved.”
