Jayson Werth: “You’ve Got to Show Up Ready to Eat Somebody’s Face”

The Nationals lost to the Phillies again Tuesday, this time by a 4-2 score that left them a season-low two games under .500. I feel like I've been writing that a lot lately.

Shortstop Ian Desmond expressed to manager Davey Johnson his concern that the Nationals weren't playing as "loose" as they were last season when they earned a major league-leading 98 victories, to which Johnson said that "they just have to go through the experience. ... But I think we'll be fine."

Outfielder Jayson Werth, on the other hand, had a different approach.

“People that drown in it and people that take it home and allow it to eat at them and all that don’t usually last too long,” Werth told reporters after the game. "They don’t stick around. That’s all part of being a big-leaguer. You’ve just got to do it. You’ve got to show up tomorrow ready to eat somebody’s face.”

Note to self: Stay as far away from Jayson Werth as humanly possible.
