Williams "Insulted" By Redskins' "Homecoming"

@DeAngeloRB

DeAngelo Williams didn't take too kindly to the Redskins' "Homecoming" game.

The Washington Redskins' game against the Carolina Panthers Sunday was designated by the team as their annual "homecoming." The 'Skins invited several greats from the past to take part in the festivities and the current incarnation wore throwback uniforms for the occasion.

Now, if you remember back to high school and/or college, usually teams schedule inferior opponents for homecoming so that the good vibes aren't ruined by a loss. The 1-6 Panthers, who hadn't won a game since mid-September, seemed like the perfect patsy opponent.

Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams, however, did not take too kindly to that.

"I've never been more insulted in the nfl until today!" Williams said on his Facebook page. "The redskins schedule us for their HOMECOMING game! This isn't college."

Williams expanded on that idea in the locker room.

"It pissed me off. I picked up the Gameday (program), and I'm looking at the Gameday, and it says 'homecoming,' and I'm thinking to myself, this is the National Football League. Are you serious? Homecoming? Homecoming, and it's not like you tried to hide it. You blatantly put it on the front of the Gameday, and you talk about somebody getting fired up today. I was pissed. That was definitely motivating. You don't say you're going to have a homecoming in the National Football League."

To his credit, Williams did something about it, scoring on a 30-yard run -- his longest of the season -- late in the first quarter to put the Panthers ahead for good in their 21-13 win. That play, however, was not without controversy. An official blew an inadvertent whistle as Williams scampered down the sideline, which caused the Redskins that were pursuing him to slow down.

When asked on Twitter what he thought about the phantom whistle, Williams took another shot at the Redskins:
