Caps' Wideman Enjoys Being An All-Star

Perhaps overshadowed by the Ovechkin All-Star drama was the fact that Caps Dennis Wideman was more than happy to be traveling to Ottawa to represent the team.

“I’m just trying to take it all in and enjoy it,” Wideman told the Washington Times. “It was pretty special being in a room with that amount of talent.”

The humble defenseman finished Sunday’s game with a secondary assist for Team Chara. While he didn’t take home any honors from the Skills Challenge, he managed respectable stats in the Hardest Shot competition and as the one-timer leg of the Skills Challenge Relay.

As you can see from the video, despite his 95.3 mph slapshot, Wideman was no match for Zdeno Chara’s 108.8 mph puck.
