Behind Enemy Lines: Philly Edition

We all know what the D.C. media says about the Redskins, but what’s going on behind enemy lines? During the season, we’re going to head over to the opposing side and look in on the game chatter in preparation for that week’s match up.

This week we’re checking out what the Eagles and the Philadelphia media are saying about the Redskins.

The media says…

“For all the improvements the Redskins have made, they still have Rex Grossman at quarterback and that is enough to give Eagles fans hope. […] Grossman is a quarterback with limitations, but Shanahan is good as working around them. Grossman is accurate enough throwing between the hash marks, but he has real problems throwing to the outside. As a result, the offense is built around short throws, screen passes and slants, routes Grossman throws with some confidence.” – Ray Didinger of CSN Philadelphia, adding to the pile of Grossman criticism.

“Rex Grossman vs. Eagles ‘D’. The allegedly star-studded secondary has two interceptions on the year, which almost defies logic. Grossman can be turned into “Bad Rex” if the front four supplies a little pressure and the corners start looking like they care. The Redskins QB has been sacked eight times, lost four fumbles and thrown five interceptions through four games.” - Tim McManus of Philly Sports Daily. We’re sensing a pattern here.

“For the Eagles, despite the awful start, a win actually puts them in ok position. They would be just two games back in the NFC East at worst and possibly only 1 back with still two games against Dallas, and a game against the Giants and Redskins to play. There's no doubt the Eagles have dug themselves in a hole, but a win this weekend really does go a long way toward giving them a path out of it.” – Jason Brewer of SB Nation Philly, who is clearly a “glass half full” guy.

The team says…

"It would be big to win this game this week. We just have to get our minds right and focused to go out and do so. It shouldn’t be any other way with any other train of thought. We go out and play with confidence, and play the game to win.” – Michael Vick, with the obvious statement of the week.
