The 25-footer at the buzzer went swish, proving once again that George Mason and Virginia Commonwealth don't have to be marching to the Final Four to put on a good show.

Sherrod Wright hit the long 3-pointer as time expired Tuesday night, giving the Patriots a 62-61 win over the Rams in a first-place battle worthy of the Final Four schools from the Colonial Athletic Association.

``I still can't believe it. Phew,'' George Mason coach Paul Hewitt said. ``I hope my wife doesn't read this: This is the best Valentine's I've had in a long time.''

After VCU's Briante Weber made 1 of 2 free throws with 3.8 seconds remaining, Wright took the inbounds pass, dribbled downcourt and made his shot in front of defender Rob Brandenberg, leading to a raucous Patriot Center celebration.

``I made the shot of my dreams,'' the sophomore guard said. ``Everybody dreams about making a big-time shot to get a big win against your rival, and my dream came true today.''

Ryan Pearson scored 24 points to lead the Patriots (22-6, 14-2), who have won 10 of 11 and remain in a tie for first in the CAA with Drexel, which beat William & Mary 63-61 earlier Tuesday.
