Georgetown Earns No. 2 Seed in South Region, Will Open Against Florida Gulf Coast

The Georgetown Hoyas have earned a No. 2 seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament and will open South Regional play Friday in Philadelphia against the 15th-seeded Florida Gulf Coast Eagles.

Georgetown finished the regular season with a 25-6 record and a share of the Big East regular-season championship. In the Big East tournament, however, the Hoyas fell to rival Syracuse in the semifinal round.

Meanwhile, the Eagles, who will be making their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament, earned their bid by winning the Atlantic Sun tournament. Florida Gulf Coast boasts an impressive victory over Miami from back in November.

If Georgetown advances past Florida Gulf Coast (which is not a given, considering the Hoyas have been eliminated by a double-digit seed in four of the last five tournaments), it will face either seventh-seeded San Diego State or 10th-seeded Oklahoma Sunday in Philadelphia.
